A reference book/online reference for stitches: Lazy Daisy, Chain, Stem, Running, and French Knot

My piece will be placed on a “large” oak pincushion offered by Lorna Bateman on Etsy.

You may wish to use any fabric with a repeated background. By choosing analogous colors, or colors located next to one another on the color wheel, you can not go wrong. One color will be dominant and the rest will support the design through variations in the stitches. I have the white daisies as dominant and the variations in the yellow daisies support the design and make it interesting. Long stems were done in chain while shorter tendrils were done in chain or in stem. The running stitch is a laid run of two threads: one each of yellow and lime green. Laid means that I took care to have the threads sit next to each other each time I made the stitch.. The result is a yellow green color.

All stitching was done with one thread except for the running stitches, black French knots in the big yellow daisies, and the small thick daisies.. Notice in the smaller yellow daisies that the holding stitch for the Lazy Daisy is extended a few millimeters.
